How payment gateway fees work in India
When a customer pays, the gateway keeps a percentage of the transaction as its fee, and the government adds 18% GST on top of that fee. So your net settlement is the amount minus the fee minus GST on the fee. The exact percentage depends on the method — UPI is often the cheapest, while international cards cost the most.
Why the payment method matters
For the same rupee amount, UPI, domestic cards, netbanking and international cards can settle very differently. If most of your customers pay by UPI, your effective cost can be far lower than a flat 2% suggests — which is exactly why the calculator lets you switch methods and see the real net.
- UPI is typically the lowest-cost method for Indian customers
- International cards carry the highest fee, plus currency handling
- GST at 18% always applies on the gateway fee itself
- Your negotiated rate may be lower than standard published pricing

Frequently asked
- What are Razorpay's fees in India?
- Razorpay's standard pricing is around 2% on domestic cards and netbanking, with UPI often the cheapest, and roughly 3% on international cards — plus 18% GST on the fee. Your actual rate can be lower depending on your plan and volume.
- Is GST charged on Razorpay fees?
- Yes. GST at 18% is applied on the gateway fee (not on your whole transaction). The calculator above adds it automatically so you see the true net settlement.
- Which is cheaper — Razorpay or Stripe in India?
- For domestic rupee payments Razorpay is usually the more economical, India-native choice, especially for UPI. Stripe can cost more for international cards due to currency conversion. Compare both for your exact amount in the table above.
- How much will I actually receive on a payment?
- Enter the amount and method above — the tool shows the fee, the 18% GST, and the exact rupee amount that settles to your account, alongside the other gateways.
- Can Kashvi add Razorpay to my app?
- Yes. Kashvi bakes Razorpay into the apps it generates, so UPI and card checkout in rupees work out of the box — you describe the app and the payment flow is included.
