A Hercules Alternative That Hands You the Code — and Takes UPI

Wall one — the code is visible, but not yours to touch

There is something particular about a paywall you only discover after the app already works. Hercules will render the whole file tree for you and then stop you at the edit button, because direct code editing lives on the Business plan. Nothing is broken about that as a business model. It is just a bad surprise on the day a client asks for a change you could have made in ninety seconds. Kashvi puts the editor and a ZIP download on every plan, the free one included, so the escape hatch is open before you need it rather than sold to you at the moment you do.

Wall two — a Convex export is not really an export

Hercules builds its server side out of Convex modules. That is a defensible engineering choice and Convex is a decent product, but it travels with your app forever: the exported project still expects Convex to be there, so the freelancer you hire in Indore has to learn a new platform before touching your booking logic. Kashvi writes a boring Postgres schema instead. Boring is the point. Any host runs it, any backend developer reads it in an afternoon, and if you already pay for Supabase or Firebase you can point the generated app at those instead. Leaving Kashvi costs you a download, not a rewrite.

Wall three — your customers pay in rupees

This is the one that has no workaround. Search the Hercules surface for Razorpay, for UPI, for anything priced in INR, and you come back empty; the product is built USD-first, and the credits you buy are priced that way too. So a salon in Jaipur taking advance bookings, a coaching centre collecting term fees, a D2C label selling on Instagram — every one of them ends up asking a developer to bolt on a gateway that should have been there from the start. Kashvi generates the Razorpay and UPI checkout inside the app, in rupees, with GST-aware invoicing, because that is the default for the market it was built for. Your own bill is in rupees too, and a generation that fails outright is credited back to your balance instead of absorbed.

Moving across, realistically

You are not migrating a database dump. You are re-describing an app you have already proven, which is the easy version of the job because every ambiguity was resolved months ago on Hercules.

• Open your Hercules app and write down the entities, the roles, and the two or three flows that make money. That list is your prompt.
• Paste it into Kashvi and watch the preview build as it goes, correcting wording as screens appear rather than waiting on a placeholder.
• Ask for Razorpay and UPI in the same breath if you take money, so checkout is part of the first build instead of a later project.
• Open the editor, fix the small things yourself, then download the ZIP and put the code somewhere you control.
• Ship the web app, and generate the React Native build when the Play Store version becomes the priority.

What you actually give up

Honesty is cheaper than a churned customer, so: Hercules is a well-funded product from a credible team with a workspace deeper than ours. Milestones, skills, branches, a tests beta, versioned history and a couple of hundred integrations are not marketing fluff, and a hundred thousand businesses did not sign up by accident. What you trade that catalogue for is narrower and, for a lot of founders, more valuable — an editor nobody can lock, a database that outlives the vendor, a preview that keeps up with your thinking, and a checkout your customers already trust. Decide which of those two lists your next six months depend on.
